Privacy Policy

Overview

CLI Finder is a public, free registry for finding command-line tools that may be useful in AI-agent workflows. Its initial release includes a 38-tool registry, search, a public JSON API and CLI, generated Skill, policy, and manifest drafts, and forms for submitting tools or reporting incorrect information. You do not need to create an account or provide payment information to browse or use these public features.

This Privacy Policy explains what information may be processed when you use CLI Finder, why it is processed, and the choices available to you.

Information We Process

Basic request and device data

When you visit CLI Finder or call its public API, hosting and network providers such as Cloudflare may process standard request data. Depending on the provider and configuration, this can include an IP address, request time, requested URL, user agent, browser or device information, response status, and security signals. This data is used to deliver the service, diagnose failures, measure reliability, and protect the service from abuse.

Infrastructure providers may keep their own operational or security logs under their policies. CLI Finder does not require an account and does not use these request logs to build an account profile.

Locale and theme preferences

CLI Finder may store essential preferences, such as your selected language and light, dark, or system theme, in cookies or browser storage. These preferences help the site display consistently on later visits. You can clear them through your browser settings, although doing so may reset the site to its defaults.

Tool submissions and broken-information reports

If you submit a tool or report an issue, CLI Finder processes the information you enter in the form. Depending on the form, this may include:

• The tool or submitter name.
• A tool slug or page reference.
• An official or supporting URL.
• An optional email address.
• A reason, correction, or explanation.
• The submission type, status, and creation or update timestamp.

CLI Finder also creates a one-way hash of the submitting IP address using a server-side secret (a pepper). The hash supports rate limiting, abuse prevention, and incident review. The raw IP address is not written to the CLI Finder submission or report business tables.

Providing an email address is optional. If you provide one, it may be used to clarify or follow up on your submission or report. It is not intended to be published as part of a registry entry.

Optional analytics and support tools

CLI Finder may enable analytics, error-monitoring, or support tools in the future. If enabled, those tools may process usage, diagnostic, or communication data needed for their stated purpose. Their operation may involve third-party providers and will be subject to the notices and controls presented with the relevant feature. CLI Finder does not claim that every optional integration is currently active.

How We Use Information

We use information only as reasonably necessary to:

• Deliver the website, search, public API, CLI resources, and generated artifacts.
• Preserve language and appearance preferences.
• Review tool submissions and investigate reported errors.
• Limit automated abuse, spam, and excessive requests.
• Secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve CLI Finder.
• Respond to lawful requests and enforce applicable terms.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on providing the requested service, legitimate interests in operating and securing a public registry, consent for optional features, or compliance with legal obligations.

Sharing and Service Providers

CLI Finder does not sell personal information. Information may be shared only when reasonably necessary:

• With infrastructure, security, analytics, or support providers that help operate an enabled part of the service.
• To investigate abuse, protect CLI Finder or others, or enforce legal rights.
• To comply with applicable law, a court order, or another valid legal request.
• As part of a reorganization or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate protections.

Service providers may process data in locations different from your own. Where required, reasonable safeguards will be used for cross-border processing.

Official Links and Third-Party Tools

Registry entries link to official documentation, repositories, package managers, and other third-party sites. The public CLI and generated artifacts may also direct you to third-party command-line tools. Those services and tools are controlled by their respective maintainers and have their own privacy and data-handling practices. Review their policies before sending data or credentials to them.

Retention

Information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, including maintaining submission history, handling reports, preventing abuse, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations. Retention depends on the type of record and operational need; CLI Finder does not promise a single fixed retention period. Information may be deleted, aggregated, or de-identified when it is no longer needed.

Security

CLI Finder uses reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a public registry, including restricted access to stored submissions and one-way hashing for the abuse-prevention identifier. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Do not include passwords, API keys, private repository details, or other sensitive information in a submission or report.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a copy of personal information associated with you, or to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent where processing depends on consent. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions and identity verification.

You can manage locale and theme storage through your browser. To make a privacy request, use the CLI Finder contact form and provide enough detail to identify the relevant submission or report without sending unnecessary sensitive information.

Children

CLI Finder is a technical reference service intended for a general developer audience and is not directed to children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, use the contact form so the matter can be reviewed.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may change as CLI Finder evolves or legal requirements change. The updated date on this page will be revised when changes are published. Material changes may also be highlighted through the service when appropriate.
